Finally, please read the note below from the Church Council about a significant change that is coming in two weeks. On Rally Sunday, September 9, we will change our worship schedule to 8:00 traditional and 10:00 contemporary services. Sunday School will start at 9:05, with adult classes at 9:15.
There are other unique events and opportunities that we want to alert you to through this weekly e-note. Our website (www.lcrmarion.org) provide more details on each topic.
Blessings to you,
AN IMPORTANT NOTE FROM THE CHURCH COUNCIL
On this past Tuesday night, the Council discussed the fall worship schedule and voted to combine the previous 9:45 & 11:00 contemporary services into one service at 10:00, and moved back the traditional service to 8:00, starting on Rally Sunday, Sept. 9. Our VRG survey from last year indicated the most popular start time for worship for our members was the 9:00-10:00 hour. We will now have a dedicated education hour so parents of Sunday School children can help with Sunday School, attend adult classes, join in a fellowship hour, and worship together as a family. Sunday School will start at 9:05 and meet for 45 minutes. Adult classes will start at 9:15 so attenders can get some coffee, visit with one another, and then settle into a class. 10:00 worship attenders can leave adult classes early to pick up their kids from Sunday School and get a seat for worship. We ask for your patience and cooperation as we adapt to this new schedule.
Youth & Adult Program Volunteers needed – Volunteers are still needed for Sunday School and Adult Ed classes on Sunday mornings and Confirmation guides for Wednesday evenings. One of the goals and hopes of going to two services this fall instead of three is to free up adults and older youth during the Sunday School hour for teaching or helping our Sunday School children. If you would like to help with Sunday School, contact Jessi Heidelbauer: firstname.lastname@example.org. To help with confirmation, contact Pastor Miranda: email@example.com.
LCR will be seeking a Director of Communications this fall. This is a full time position that involves both internal and external communications, graphic arts, marketing, and fundraising skills. For more information, there is a job description on the entryway bulletin board.
EDGE high school youth group begins this Wednesday, August 29 at 7:30 pm.
Sunday School begins on September 9 at 9:05. Registration forms for all youth programs are at the gathering space table and on our website.
Wednesday Night Live will start on Wednesday, September 12 at 6 pm, meeting in the fellowship hall. WNL is for elementary age students in 3rd-5th grades.
On September 2 & 5, “What’s Our Mission?”, along with a preview of September-May sermon series, will be shared by Pastor Dennis. On Rally Sunday, Sept. 9 & 12, a new sermon series begins- Give Yourself a PoWeR SuRGe – with Pastor Dennis preaching on prayer as a Mark of Discipleship.
Could you share a brief story for our Give Yourself a PoWeR SuRGe series? If you could share in worship, either via video or in person, about how/why/when/where you pray… or worship.. or read the Bible… or serve… or gather with others to build relationships… or give… it would be a blessing to all of us. Jot a note on a welcome card or email Pastor Dennis: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Five Seasons Ringers @ the Ballpark – On Sunday, August 26 the Resurrection Ringers will join nearly 100 other handbell ringers to play the National Anthem at the Kernel’s game. Your gifts to the Growth & Outreach Fund this year have been exceptional! Through July we were able to: fund intern Alyssa’s position; give over $21,000 for Camp Chisomo scholarships, Marion Cares SHINE after-school programs, and a new Habitat for Humanity home in Marion; and provide almost $25,000 for building maintenance costs, including our recent parking lot repairs. We anticipate hiring a new communications director in the next month or two, with the salary and benefits coming from this Fund.
General Fund gifts through July were 99% of what was promised, pro-rated through July, from the 227 families and individuals who made General Fund commitments last fall. Thank you for your faithful giving! Your support this fall will provide for the staff and materials needed to carry out our Sunday School, EDGE, confirmation, and Wednesday Night Live programming, along with supporting our choirs and worship needs.
Last call for gifts to the July-August mission envelopes, which are designated for the Catherine McAuley Center in Cedar Rapids. Their mission is to directly minister to women and to the economically poor, to provide temporary shelter for women and children in crisis, to assist women in attaining safe, affordable permanent housing, and to help individuals and families access medical and community resources.
Simply Giving – You can elect to have a weekly or monthly gift withdrawn from your checking or savings account. Enrollment forms are in the info rack by the Welcome Center. Over a third of our General Fund offerings come from Simply Giving families.
Giving through VANCO – You can give electronically to LCR through: the giving kiosk by the library or the Give+ mobile app, available from Google Play or iTunes. Once your information has been entered on the app, you can give to LCR anytime, anywhere. Another option is to send a text message to the number (319) 320-1628 from your mobile phone. You will receive a one-time registration link to enter credit or debit card payment information. After that, you can simply text the amount you want to give and it will process automatically.
