Dear members and friends of LCR,
On this Sunday, September 16 (and the 19th) , our sermon series continues- Give Yourself a PoWeR SuRGe – at our new worship times of 8:00 (traditional) and 10:00 (contemporary), along with 6:00 on Wednesdays. I will share a message about the “W” of Power Surge- Worship. Sunday School meets at 9:05, with adult classes at 9:05 or 9:15, depending on the class (see Adult Discipleship below).
The note below from the Church Council gives some background on the schedule change that began last Sunday. There are other unique events and opportunities that we want to alert you to through this weekly e-note. Our website (www.lcrmarion.org) provide more details on each topic.
Blessings to you,
Sunday School begins their new unit on the story of Abraham and Sarah this Sunday, September 16 at 9:05. Registration forms for all youth programs are at the gathering space table and on our website. Parents, teachers, and children attending 8:00 worship can feel free to leave during the closing hymn so they are on time for the start of Sunday School.
Sunday School doors (#6 circle drive and #7 YAC) will be locked at 9:05 am each week so strangers won’t have any opportunity to wander through our children’s areas. If it looks like you may be late for Sunday School, please bring your kids through the main entry. Thank you for your cooperation.
Wednesday Night Live meets on Wednesday, September 19 at 6 pm, meeting in the fellowship hall. WNL is for elementary age students in 3rd-5th grades.
Confirmation large group meet this Wednesday at 7 pm. EDGE high school youth group continues this Wednesday at 7:30 pm.
Adult discipleship classes- there are five options for adults on Sunday mornings:

- Reading Biblical Literature: Genesis to Revelation– this video series, led by Bob Erlandson in the far end of fellowship hall at 9:05, features Professor Craig Koester of Luther Seminary. This week’s topic is the gospel of Mark.
- The Insanity of God- this book study is led by Duane Rinderknecht in the lounge, starting at 9:05. Follow the journey of a couple from rural Kentucky who thought they were going on an ordinary missionary pilgrimage, but discovered it would be anything but ordinary.
- Marks of Discipleship– using the weekly “Bring It Home” handouts from worship, this group will meet in the fellowship hall at 9:15 for conversation on the Power Surge Marks of Discipleship. Donna Dennis will facilitate the conversation- we’ll start this Sunday with the topic of prayer.
- Run for God – Facilitator and trainer Bob Read will guide you through a training program that takes you from the couch to a 5K in 12 weeks using a biblical perspective.. Classes are at 8:30 am on Sundays, meeting in the small conference room in the gathering space.
Sunday School “behind the scenes” jobs – Popcorn Parent: an adult to make popcorn for the students each week on Sunday mornings before 9:05 am. It’s very easy, and the kids will love you for it! Tech Lab: an adult to add some expertise to our projects with the tablets – video editing, presentation making, app updating. Our tablet projects vary from unit to unit, so this would be an on-going task. For more information, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
EWALU Volunteer Work Weekend will be September 21-23. Join other volunteers, families, and church groups for outdoor activities, fun fellowship, and service projects around camp. Lodging and meals provided free of charge. Please RSVP to email@example.com or call 563-933-4700.

JuBellation Youth Bell Choir is looking for kids who want to make some beautiful noise! 4th-12th graders are welcome, and no experience is necessary. Practices will be on Thursday evenings from 5:30 – 6:15 pm. We perform at services throughout the school year. Make a note on your welcome card, or contact Matthew Lang at 319-480-4435 or firstname.lastname@example.org. JuBellation is lots of fun!
Schedule Change– at their August meeting, the Church Council discussed the fall worship schedule and voted to combine the previous 9:45 & 11 contemporary services into one service at 10:00, and move back the traditional service to 8:00, starting on Rally Sunday, Sept. 9. Our VRG survey from last year indicated the most popular start time for worship for our members was the 9:00-10:00 hour. We will now have a dedicated education hour so parents of Sunday School children can help with Sunday School, attend adult classes, join in a fellowship hour, and worship together as a family. Sunday School will start at 9:05 and meet for 45 minutes. Adult classes will start at either 9:05 or 9:15 (depending on the class) so attenders can get some coffee, visit with one another, and then settle into a class. 10:00 worship attenders can leave adult classes early to pick up their kids from Sunday School and get a seat for worship. We ask for your patience and cooperation as we adapt to this new schedule.
EWALU Fall Festival & Quilt Auction will be held on Saturday, September 15 from 9 am to 5 pm. Join us for craft demonstrations, live music, a worship service, hayride tours of the camp, and quilts displayed for review. A free-will lunch is served at noon and the auction itself starts at 1:00. It is a day to celebrate and support the incredible ministry that occurs at Camp Ewalu.
Fellowship hour– come early each Sunday for coffee and a Dunkin’ donut before the 8:00 service or stay after either service to have some refreshments and conversation.
Lifetree Café invites the community in each Friday for a free hour of coffee, light refreshments, and conversation around relevant issues. We’ll meet at noon on Friday, September 21 to discuss “Miracles or Mere Coincidences?” Check out our Facebook page for Lifetree: facebook.com/LifetreeCafe.Marion.
