Dear members and friends of LCR,
On this Sunday, March 4, our pastoral intern Alyssa Weaver will preach on the gospel story of Jesus in the Temple courts from John 2. In the story we see Jesus cleanse the temple of all commercialization, an essential practice for Jews at the time of Passover. When challenged , he responds mysteriously, with the first prediction in the Gospel of John of his own death and resurrection. In the midst of a seemingly stable religious center, Jesus suggests that the center itself has changed.
There are other upcoming events and opportunities that we want to alert you to through this weekly e-note. Our website (www.lcrmarion.org) provide more details on each topic.
Blessings to you,
Lenten Wednesdays – With Holden Evening Prayer as our liturgy, our worship theme will be “Members in Mission: Following Jesus into the World,” featuring stories from members who have found meaning and purpose in volunteering with our mission partners. This week’s speakers are Cheryl Wilms & Ron Versteegh. They will share her faith story and how it connects with serving as a family at Camp EWALU. Your purple Lenten envelope offerings will be given to mission partners such as: Matthew 25, Mission of Hope, and Lutheran Services in Iowa.

Please let Jill know if you would like to have your student on the scholarship list. Include student name, program attending and week the student is attending camp.

March-April mission envelopes will be designated for the ELCA “40 Days of Giving” emphasis. Malawi health & wellness projects and education & vocational training needs will be supported through this emphasis.
Your gifts to the Growth & Outreach Fund in March will provide salary, benefits, and housing for our seminary intern, Alyssa Weaver; funds for Camp Chisomo scholarships for youth and adults going to Malawi in June; and snow removal/facility maintenance. Our support of Marion Cares and Habitat for Humanity projects will continue once the $5,000 goal for scholarships is met. In February we received $7,997 for the Growth & Outreach Fund, and set aside $2,400 for Camp Chisomo scholarships.
General Fund gifts support our local ministries and programs led by our staff and carried out by our members and friends. Your General Fund gifts also support our mission partners locally and around the world. Our monthly need will be about $57,800 for an annual budget of $693,350. Thanks for your generous, faithful support so far in 2018!
