The season of Epiphany begins on January 6 with the story of the magi visiting the infant Jesus. One of the central themes of Epiphany is light. We will gather our Epiphany Sundays under one theme – The Light of the World – as we hear familiar words and stories from Matthew’s gospel.
January 1 & 4: The word Epiphany means “manifestation.” On this day we will celebrate the revelation of Christ to all nations as magi from the east come to Bethlehem. We know that the magi had their own plans for their return trip home, but God had other plans: “And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they left for their own country by another road.” (Matthew 2:12) The beginning of a new year is often a time for plans. What roads might God send you down in the coming year as you seek to serve the newborn King? Preacher: Pr. Dennis
