Dear members and friends of LCR,

This Sunday, September 3 , will wrap up our summer worship schedule that has been in place since Memorial Day. Our seminary intern, Alyssa Weaver, will preach her first sermon on “Being Cross Bearers.” At 10:15 we will witness the baptisms of Josiah Thompson and Molly Seamster, along with hearing our With Faith band under the direction of our new contemporary worship director, Aaron Schutte.

Older Hymns – Ed & Sharon Hill are stepping down as director and accompanist of the Older Hymns after 27 years of leadership. We will give thanks for their ministry on Sunday, September 10 at the 8:15 service.

A “litany of beginning “ for our intern, Alyssa Weaver, will take place next Sunday at all services. The Intern Committee invites you to share a card or a gift card as a welcoming gift to LCR for Alyssa. We will have a cake in the gathering space to enjoy in her honor.

Tyler Hagy is our new Resurrection Choir director. Tyler is a 2013 Luther College graduate in Music and Theatre/Dance and sang in the Nordic Choir at Luther. He has advanced degrees from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Tyler is a new vocal music teacher at Linn-Mar High School. The first choir rehearsal will be on Wednesday, September 13 at 7:15 pm.

Amy Lovseth, Abby Harkin, Jennifer McGowan, and Camella Oellrich were approved by the Council to be our new nursery staff. Stop in and greet them as they serve our little ones!                                         


Confirmation began on Wednesday, August 30, with the Fall Confirmation Orientation Night for all parents, students, and guides. Confirmation Guides are needed for our 6th grade class. Contact Pastor Miranda at the church or at miranda@lcrmarion.oorg.


Sunday School Teachers Needed – Sunday School starts on September 10th! As we prepare for an exciting year of discipleship and fellowship with our students, we are looking for a couple more volunteers in preschool and kindergarten. All the materials are provided for you. Take Away Hunger packaging event on Sunday, August 27 was a big success! 165 LCR members and friends packaged 111 boxes, which equals 3,996 bags, which adds up to 23,976 individual servings of the rice and beans meal. The boxes will be sent to the Crisis Center in Iowa City.

Stephen Ministry Class to Begin – In October, our Stephen Leader Team will begin training some of the members of our congregation to serve as Stephen Ministers. Applications for the class are available now. Do you feel a calling to care for others who are hurting? Do you desire the personal joy that comes from sharing Christ’s love with people? Our fall worship schedule resumes on September 10 with worship at 8:15, 9:45, and 11:00 on Sundays, and 6:00 on Wednesdays.


 Rally Sunday will be on September 10th. There will be a noon potluck meal served with hot dogs and pulled pork provided. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share. Remember to wear your favorite team’s gear on this kick-off Sunday. Afterwards, kids can enjoy a bounce house, snow cones, balloon animals, and face painting.

Fellowship Time is held in the café on Sunday mornings from 9:15-10:15 am. The menu includes Dunkin Donuts, Kettel House pastries, juice, and coffee. Come and connect with your Resurrection family this Sunday before or after worship.

LifeTree Café, an exciting new outreach ministry, will have its first gathering on Friday noon, October 6, in our café. The target of this ministry will be our neighbors around LCR who are in need of Christian community. Check out the September Crosstalk for more information (p. 5).


 Hurricane Harvey relief- ELCA congregations have a wonderful way to express our love and concern for disaster victims like those affected by Hurricane Harvey. Your gifts to Lutheran Disaster Response- designated for Hurricane Harvey- will be used 100% for this disaster. Mission Envelope Gifts for September-October will be sent to Willis Dady Homeless Services, a temporary shelter provider in downtown Cedar Rapids. Phoebe Trepp, the Executive Director of Willis Dady, will be with us in two weeks, on September 17, to share about their important ministry.
