|“Toward Compassionate, Just, and Wise Immigration Reform” is a social policy resolution adopted by the Church Council of the Evangelical Lutheran Church at its November 2009 meeting. This synod’s Commission for Church in Society will be hosting a conversation about immigration and this social policy resolution on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at The
Southeastern Iowa Synod Center for Ministry in Iowa City, IA, from 9:30 AM – 3:00 PM.
Registration will be limited to fifty people. A $6.00 donation is requested to defray the cost of the lunch.
Presenters for this event include Dr. Mark Grey from the University of Northern Iowa and the New Iowans Center; Victor Thasiah from the ELCA Department of Studies and who worked on developing the social policy resolution; Doris Knight, Iowa Executive Director of Justice for Our Neighbors and long-time advocate surrounding issues of immigration; Jill Stuecker from Lutheran Services in Iowa Refugee Program; and another person yet to be confirmed.
