New Library Wish List

Lutheran Church of the Resurrection has one of the best kept and most up-to-date church libraries around. Our staff of volunteers is constantly looking for ways to make it better. A new computer system that will help you search the library and check out books is in the process of being installed.

Quality material that will inspire and inform the people of Resurrection is regularly added to the collection. But with a limited budget it is impossible to get all the books, videos and resources that we would like.

If you would like to help, or even if you just want to get ideas for a good book to read, visit the new LCR Library Wish List at Amazon.com. The Wish List is compiled by the staff and librarians at Resurrection. The books and DVDs cover a wide range of topics from general Christianity to grief and suffering issues to raising healthy children and teens.

You can purchase items on the Wish List online at Amazon.com and have them sent directly to the church library. Or you can purchase materials from other on-line sources or local bookstores and drop them off at the library the next time you are at church.

New Library Director

The Resurrection church library is the perfect place to get a quiet break or to seek some inspiration through books and videos. The varied collection of resources, from classic Lutheran writings to the newest Biblical scholarship, Christian fiction and children’s material has been overseen by a dedicated group of volunteers over the years. This month, Marlys Claussen is handing over the reins as director of the library to Angela Tastad.

Marlys Claussen and Gloria Sommervold

The original church library was set up by Esther Sharbo with help from Rene Kinchloe shortly after the congregation was established 50 years ago. For the past 20 years Rene and Marlys have been taking turns managing the library’s collection with help from various people over the years. For the past 10 years Gloria Sommervold has been assisting with the tasks of re-shelving books and setting up displays. Both Marlys and Gloria will continue to assist in those weekly tasks but will be turning the direction of the library over to Angela.

Angela Tastad

Angela and her family (husband Eric and son Leif) have been members of Resurrection since the fall of 2007. Angela is interested in pursuing a Masters Degree in Library Science and feels that serving as director of the church library will be good experience. As director of the library she will be in charge of the library budget, new acquisitions and upkeep of the collection. Angela said that one of her first priorities will be to complete the transition from the card catalog to a computer database that will make searching for and tracking material more efficient.

We give thanks to God for  Marlys, Rene and Gloria for their many (and continued) years of service to the congregation through the library ministry and to Angela for stepping up to take on this task. We are blessed to have one of the best kept church libraries around. Stop by and take a look.
