Music & Munchies for Malaria

Come and join the fight against the spread of malaria by listening to some great music and relaxing with some refreshments and good company.

On Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 7:00pm LCR’s choral music groups will put on a concert to benefit the ELCA Malaria campaign. Following the concert refreshments will be served in the Fellowship Hall. A free will offering will be taken and all proceeds will go the ELCA Malaria initiative.

The goal of the ELCA Malaria Campaign is to stop the spread of malaria by 2015. The ELCA is working in partnership with African churches and relief organizations to provide medication, education and treated mosquito nets to people in affected areas. The Music and Munchies for Malaria concert is the second event hosted by Resurrection members in support of this campaign. In March the 8th grade Confirmation class hosted a Lenten pancake supper and raised over $500.

Choir Concert

On Saturday, May 22, Resurrection’s vocal music groups will hold a special concert at 7:00pm.  The concert is a Pentecost celebration of the way the Holy Spirit has blessed and inspires the congregation through music. Each Sunday during the school year First Light Worship (8:15) includes a vocal selection by one or more of the vocal ensembles.

The concert on Saturday will include pieces by the Galileans (women’s chorus) The Older Hymns (men’s chorus) BLeSD (men’s quartet) and the Resurrection Choir. Following the concert there will be refreshments served in the Fellowship Hall. This event is free and open to the public.

Victorian Carolers

The Victorian Carolers, a seasonal vocal group from Resurrection, has been singing their way through the community again this holiday season. December 3rd the group brought their cheer to Marion Christmas in the Park (singing in the foyer of the Marion Library for warmth). On Thursday, December 10, the group gathered to sing for the residents of Summit Pointe (pictured above).

The Carolers, who rehearse Sundays at noon, still have several community and church events scheduled.  On Sunday, December 13 they will be at the Marion HyVee  at noon and then will be singing before the Sunday School Christmas Programs in the Gathering Space at Resurrection (1:40 and 3:40). A final appearance is scheduled for the residents of Village Ridge on Sunday December 20th at 1:00pm.
