LUTHERAN CHURCH OF THE RESURRECTION e-news
Dear members and friends of LCR,
This Sunday we will conclude our five week sermon series on “The Power of Purpose” with a look at the purpose of fellowship. I will share some thoughts on the value of small groups and other ways to have fellowship together. Our summer schedule begins this Sunday with worship at 8:15, 10:15, and Wednesday nights at 6.
There are other upcoming events and opportunities that we want to alert you to through this weekly e-note. The monthly Crosstalk and our website provide more details on each topic.
See you on Sunday!
Spirit Stories – Pentecost is a celebration of the gift of the Holy Spirit – and we are looking for brief stories of how YOU have experienced the Holy Spirit in your life. They do not need to be long or detailed. The stories will be part of the choir presentation on Sunday, June 4. All stories will be confidential. Please email any stories to Cheryl Wilms (firstname.lastname@example.org) or leave in the church office. Let’s be witnesses – share your story, give God the Glory!
Congratulations to all our Resurrection high school and college graduates! Many of these graduates have served as Sunday School helpers, on mission trips, and in other ways.
Thanks to Matt & Tammy Evans for their many years of faithful service as our contemporary worship leader and children’s ministry director. We will have a reception on Sunday, June 11 from 9:15-10:15 to honor them for their dedication and impact on our congregation.
Our Malawi Mission Trip group leaves on Saturday, June 3 and returns on June 22. They will continue their work with Camp Chisomo and the AIDS orphans in Malawi. Please keep them in your prayers as they travel.
FLY (Feeding Lunches to Youth) is looking for a few items to help offset costs for our meals this year. If you are able, please pick up some peanut butter, juice boxes, and/or sandwich bags and place them in the marked bin in the gathering space. Thank you for helping local kids have a good lunch each weekday this summer.
Summer Sidekicks will be needed for Marion Cares Summer program beginning June 12th. Adult and high school volunteers are welcome to help us Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays from 11 am to 1 pm. Contact information to sign up is on the entryway bulletin board, or email email@example.com. Save the date of Saturday, July 29th for the Marion Cares “Uplift Uptown” from 3-6 pm in Marion Square Park. This will be a “friend-raiser” with church bands, food, and testimonials from kids, parents, and staff on the ministry of Marion Cares.
Matthew 25’s Transform Week is coming on June 26-30. You can volunteer for one day or a whole week alongside friends, family, co-workers, or make new friends while you serve. 12 neighborhood projects are planned on the SW side of Cedar Rapids. LCR will provide lunches for around 50 workers on one of those days. Watch for more information in future e-news blasts.
Mission Envelope Gifts for May and June are going to the Community Free Health Clinic in Cedar Rapids. The medical clinic serves uninsured and underserved patients on a first-come, first-served basis, free of charge – no appointment needed. They also serve dental needs, eye care, and help with prescriptions. Their website- www.communityhfc.org- has wonderful ministry stories of how the Clinic makes a difference in the lives of people in need.
As summer begins, our support for youth ministry goes way up for EWALU camper scholarships, day camp expenses, and the high school mission trip. Your financial support over these months is critical in helping transform young lives through these experiences. As you head out on vacation, remember to support your church with your prayers and your offerings. Thanks to those who use Simply Giving to help us keep an steady cash flow through the summer months.
