Dear Friends

I heard it said recently (please forgive me for not remembering who I heard it from) that there is a significant difference in the size of a rearview mirror and the windshield of an automobile.  Apparently looking ahead is a lot more important than looking back. One has already passed what is seen in that small rearview mirror. Looking out of the windshield is like looking with hope for the future. As a congregation LCR is looking through the windshield, with faith that God will provide an awesome leader to guide us into a spirit-filled future.

See you in worship,

Interim Pastor Denny Wright

Worship

Looking ahead – Camp Sunday will be on August 18th and Youth Mission Trip presentation will be on September 8th.

Fall schedule change – Beginning September 1st, we’ll have First Light Worship at 8:00 am, New Song Worship at 10:30 am, and Sunday School & Adult Faith classes at 9:15 am. Evening Song Worship, on Wednesdays, will continue at 6:00 pm.

Pastoral Transition

Farewell celebrations with Pastor Miranda will be Sunday, July 28th after both services and following the Wednesday evening service on the 31st. There will be cake Sunday, and a potluck on Wednesday. Stop and wish Pastor Miranda and family well as they move into the next chapter of their life together! Wednesday night attenders, please bring side dishes/salads/desserts to share.

The Call Committee for our new Senior Pastor met recently with Pastor Paul Ostrem & were given some excellent guidance on how the Call Process works. We are meeting again shortly with the intent of working on a Congregational Survey. This survey should reflect how we see ourselves growing as a church and what qualities we are seeking in a new Senior Pastor. We are asking for everyone to prayerfully consider where we are right now & who will be the right person to lead us into the future. Most importantly, we ask for your continued prayers as we move through this important process.

Ministry

FLY (Feeding Lunches to Youth) // The Feeding Lunches to Youth (FLY) program prepares sack lunches in the summer to needy youth in the Marion & Linn Mar districts. LCR volunteers help pack lunches or deliver & serve at the designated sites on Mondays throughout the summer. Kids and teens are welcome to serve with an adult. Sign up today!

Churches of Marion Food Pantry // Summer is the time of year when food donations go DOWN, due to lack of food drives and fewer donations coming in from participating churches, and demand goes UP, as kids are not receiving school-based meals. Can you help us fill the gap this summer for local families? You can donate items directly (list on bulletin board), or help us fund our purchases. Food donations are accepted at the bins in the gathering space. Monetary donations may be sent to the Pantry (864 – 12th St. in Marion). THANKS SO MUCH for your continued support!

Fellowship

Kay & Charlie Clauss 70th Wedding Anniversary.  Charlie & Kay are celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary on Tuesday, July 30th.  They will be having an open house on Sunday, July 28th at their residence at 3120 24th Avenue in Marion, from 1:30pm to 4:00pm. Please stop by and say hello.  Cake and drinks will be served.  No gifts, please.

Knitting Group // Join this group each Thursday from 6:30 – 8:30 pm. They have needles and yarn for making hospice blankets. In addition, we’re looking for junior knitters/crocheters to spearhead a new project – scarves for the homeless. We’re very happy to teach people how to knit or crochet, so join us sometime! Call Pam Kacena with questions (360-5165).

Adult Discipleship

Lifetree Café will not be held on Sunday, July 28 due to our farewell gatherings with Pastor Miranda. Join us on Friday at noon for coffee, snacks, and discussion. Feel free to invite outside friends, as we have conversations about topics relevant to everyone. Our subject this week is “Life’s Myths – what really leads to happiness.”

Facilitators will be needed as we gear up for fall and the start of new adult faith classes. We’re particularly looking for folks who want to facilitate a class in one of these areas:

> Doubters – folks with questions about faith – why? how? who?

> How do I…. pray? study the bible? learn a new spiritual practice?

> What does the Bible say about… money? health? relationships? parenting? dying? etc.

Contact Donna Dennis or Dan Tegtmeier if you’re even a little bit interested in serving this way. Also coming this fall: Financial Peace University
