Resurrection E-News: Sunday, September 22, 2019

In October we’ll begin training congregation members to serve as Stephen Ministers. Stephen Ministers are laypeople trained to provide one-to-one Christ-centered care to hurting individuals. We will equip you with the skills to listen, encourage, and offer support when someone is in need. Do you feel a calling to this caring ministry? Contact Mary, Kelly, or Scott.

Adult Discipleship

Adult Faith – our Sunday morning adult study groups meet at 9:15 am:

  • Doubt Series: Open to high school freshmen this class will follow Rob Bell’s NOOMA video series. Jesus lived with the awareness that God is doing something, right here, right now, and anybody can be a part of it. He encouraged his listeners to search, to question, to wrestle with the implications of what he was saying and doing. He inspired, challenged, provoked, comforted, and invited people to be open to God’s work in this world. Wherever he went, whatever he did, Jesus started discussions about what matters most, because, for Jesus, God is always inviting us to open our eyes and join in. NOOMA is a series of short films that explore our world from a perspective of Jesus. NOOMA is an invitation to search, question, and join the discussion.
  • Disciple Series: Don’t miss out on joining the Chronological Bible study as they begin in approx. 435 BC. Study some Nehemiah, Ezra, and Malachi before heading into the Gospels. Reading all of the Gospels simultaneously, we’ll be able to see the similarities and differences from a variety of perspectives.
  • Doing Series: Study how to love our children as God loves us, his children through Sacred Parenting. (Donna Dennis says, “I studied this when my children were teenagers. It changed my perspective! I wish I would’ve studied it when they were toddlers.”)

55+ Group Game Day will be held on Sunday, September 29 from 2-5 pm in the fellowship hall. We’ll be playing a dominoes game called Mexican Train. We’ll demonstrate how to play and then the action will begin! No special skills are needed. Please sign up by September 20th so we can plan refreshments. Call Jim Dettbarn (319-826-8100) with any questions.

Ministry

EWALU Volunteer Work Days will be Saturday, September 28 and Saturday, October 19. Go as individuals or as a group to help clean up after the summer camp season. Free lunch & dinner for all who participate; RSVP at 563-933-4700 or office@ewalu.org. Thank you!

Resurrection Knitters & Crocheters – On Saturday, November 9 our group will be tying scarves around trees in downtown Marion so that those in need – regardless of income – can help themselves. If you are interested in helping with this project by making a scarf yourself, you can connect with the Knitters on Thursday evenings at 6:30 pm in the lounge. If you’d rather work on your own, you can donate completed scarves to the project any time before 11/9. Contact Pam Kacena with any questions or to get involved: 319-360-5165.

Churches of Marion Food Pantry needs volunteers for several important tasks: Produce pick-up in Hiawatha on Mon & Wed afternoons; Bread pick-up Tue mornings at 7 am; Grocery shoppers – various times, at least once each month. NOTE: these jobs are better suited to two-person teams, as they involve significant lifting and moving. We also need individuals to work with pantry clients putting their food donations together on Tue and/or Thu from 1 to 3 pm. This task involves some light lifting. Contact Cari Redondo if you can help. Thank you!
