Dear members and friends of LCR,
This Sunday, January 14, we will think about how Jesus’ ministry begins with the call of disciples, who then bring others to Jesus. Philip’s friend Nathaniel begins with skepticism and moves to faith, helping to reveal to us more about who Jesus is. Nathaniel had been invited by his friend to “come and see”, and Nathaniel encountered Jesus in the flesh. Today, we can invite people to “come and see” and bring people to the body of Christ. How might you invite others to experience Christ through you this week? How might you invite others to “come and see” who this Jesus is who knows them, loves them, and calls them to mission? Pastor Miranda will be our preacher on this story from John 1:43-52.
There are other upcoming events and opportunities that we want to alert you to through this weekly e-note. Our website (www.lcrmarion.org) provide more details on each topic.

Intergenerational Mission Trip Meeting – Join us Sunday, January 21st, at 9:30 am or Wednesday, January 24th, at 7:15 pm for a Mission Trip Information Meeting as we look at dates and options and determine the interest level for an Intergenerational Mission Trip for summer 2018 for Adults and Youth. Please come with your calendar and your questions. If you are not able to join us, but you are interested in more information; please email Pastor Miranda at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Mission envelopes for January-February will be designated for FLY (Feeding Lunches to Youth). FLY serves sack lunches Monday through Friday during the summer months to at-risk children in Marion. The lunches are prepared and delivered each day out of the First United Methodist Church by volunteers. In addition to your mission offering, you could volunteer to make lunches next summer or be part of the delivery crew.
Marion Cares Opportunities – Here are some great local volunteer opportunities to give of yourself in 2018. Think about giving your time to the children of Marion Cares. These kids need YOU – to listen, to play games, to support, to color with, to talk to, to read with to, to spend time with. Just think – if everyone gave of one hour of their time, LCR could easily support this worthwhile program. Volunteering as a family is welcome, too. See the entryway bulletin board for more information. Sign up by contacting Jen at email@example.com.
Personal Care Kits – Rebecca Mary Martha Circle is collecting light-weight bath towels and bars of soap for Personal Care Kits. Assembled kits will be sent to Lutheran World Relief for world-wide distribution. Donations may be placed in the marked tub in the gathering space through February 11th. Call Lareen Gull (373-3304) with questions.
2018 Fund Appeal – As of January 7, we have received 227 commitments for the General Fund totaling $533,338. In addition, $129,630 has been pledged for the new Growth & Outreach Fund. These represent 49% of our total 463 giving units. These commitments annually amount to around 75-80% of our eventual receipts used for mission and ministry. If you haven’t already done so, we ask you to bring your 2018 commitment forms on Sunday or mail them in to the office. Please consider dividing your gifts in 2018 between the General Fund and a new Growth & Outreach Fund in an 80/20 ratio, with 80% designated for the General Fund and 20% to the Growth & Outreach Fund.
Giving through VANCO – We have three new ways to give to LCR. You can also give anywhere, anytime through the Give+ mobile app, available from Google Play or iTunes. Another option is to send a text message to the number (319) 320-1628 from your mobile phone. You will receive a one-time registration link to enter credit or debit card payment information. After that, you can simply text the amount you want to give and it will process automatically. Or check out our new LCR giving kiosk by the library. It will accept your credit card for giving offerings to LCR.
