Dear members and friends of LCR,
This Sunday we will celebrate Pentecost Sunday with a “Come, Holy Spirit” cantata by our Resurrection Choir at 8:15 & 10:15 worship. In addition to several Spirit-filled anthems, we will hear nine “Spirit Stories” contributed by LCR members about times they felt the Holy Spirit active in their lives. Special thanks to Lyn A’Hearn, Ruth Armstrong, and Cheryl Wilms for crafting this unique service.
Our summer schedule began last Sunday with worship at 8:15, 10:15, and Wednesday nights at 6.
There are other upcoming events and opportunities that we want to alert you to through this weekly e-note. The June Crosstalk went out yesterday with many stories and pictures of our life together, including photos of our 8th grade confirmands and our EDGE high school graduates. Our website (www.lcrmarion.org) provide more details on each topic.
See you on Sunday!
A new 6-week sermon series will begin next Sunday, June 11 – “Moses: In the Footsteps of the Reluctant Prophet.” We will travel each week with Adam Hamilton to Egypt and the Sinai to dig deeper into the stories of the Exodus.
Our Malawi Mission Trip group leaves on Saturday, June 3 and returns on June 22. They will serve in the village of Mpyupyu in Malawi. They will lead Camp Chisomo, where this team has been working since 2010. Camp Chisomo is a place where kids can be kids, where they can learn about God’s grace and the power it gives to live with dignity in the present and with hope for the future. The team will be teaching biblical curriculum to local children, running group activities, and building continued relationships with members of the community. Please keep these young servants in your prayers: Jessi Heidelbauer, Adam Lau, Ally Edwards, Kayleigh Akiens, Aletheia Burritt, Melanie Phelan, Sydney Smith, Nora Read, Luke Sloterdyk, Ethan Schmidt, Jon Wisner, and Katie Kascel.
Thanks to Matt & Tammy Evans for their many years of faithful service as our contemporary worship leader and children’s ministry director. We will have a reception on Sunday, June 11 from 9:15-10:15 to honor them for their dedication and impact on our congregation.
Matthew 25 will host their Transform Week from June 26 – 30. LCR has been asked by Matthew 25 to provide lunches for 50 workers on Wednesday, June 28. If you would be able to provide a dessert or help serve the meal, leave a note on your welcome card. We will purchase sandwiches and chips to go along with the desserts and drinks.
FLY (Feeding Lunches to Youth) is looking for a few items to help offset costs for our meals this year. If you are able, please pick up some peanut butter, juice boxes, and/or sandwich bags and place them in the marked bin in the gathering space. Thank you for helping local kids have a good lunch each weekday this summer.

Mission Envelope Gifts for May and June are going to the Community Free Health Clinic in Cedar Rapids. The medical clinic serves uninsured and underserved patients on a first-come, first-served basis, free of charge – no appointment needed. They also serve dental needs, eye care, and help with prescriptions. Their website (here) has wonderful ministry stories of how the Clinic makes a difference in the lives of people in need.
As summer begins, our support for youth ministry goes way up for EWALU camper scholarships, day camp expenses, and the high school mission trip. Your financial support over these months is critical in helping transform young lives through these experiences. As you head out on vacation, remember to support your church with your prayers and your offerings. Thanks to those who use Simply Giving to help us keep an steady cash flow through the summer months.
