Marion Cares Back-to-School Backpacks

Backpacks are starting to pile up around here! All 50 of our blue cards from Marion Cares have been taken and people are starting to bring in the filled backpacks. Many thanks to all those who have shopped so local kids can start the school year off with the supplies they need. All those who have not brought their backpack in yet, please remember that the due date is Sunday, July 29th. Make sure and include the blue card with your donation so we can get the backpacks to the specific kids who need them. Thank you for sharing God’s bounty to benefit our neighborhood students!

Holy Week & Easter Worship 2018

Our Holy Week observance will begin on Palm Sunday, March 25; move through the dramatic events of Maundy Thursday and Good Friday; and then culminate on Easter Sunday, April 1 with the celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Maundy Thursday (March 29) and Good Friday (March 30) services are at 7 pm. Our 4th graders will celebrate their first communion at the Maundy Thursday service. Easter Sunday worship is at 8:15, 9:45, and 11 with holy communion at all services.

The EDGE high school youth will serve an Easter Breakfast from 7:30-11:00 am, with the proceeds going to support their summer mission trip to Houston, TX to help out those recovering from Hurricane Harvey.

Ash Wednesday & Lent Worship @ LCR

Ash WednesdayFebruary 14 at 6 & 7 pm. We will hear those familiar words as we kneel at the rail: “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” The season of Lent begins with a solemn call to fasting and repentance from Jesus in Matthew 6 as we begin our journey toward the cross. The sign of ashes on our forehead suggests our human mortality. With the cross on our brow, we long for the spiritual renewal that flows from the Easter feast to come.

Lent Worship begins on Wednesday, February 21 at 6 & 7 pm. We will be using Holden Evening Prayer as our liturgy. Our worship theme will be “Members in Mission: Following Jesus into the World,” featuring stories from members who have found meaning and purpose in volunteering with our mission partners. Your purple Lenten envelope offerings will be given to mission partners such as: Matthew 25, Mission of Hope, and Lutheran Services in Iowa.

Lent Devotionals are now available online for both ADULTS and FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN. We will have print-outs at the church for those who do not have computer access.

Churches of Marion Food Pantry “Reverse Lent” Giving Project During Lent, you can pick up a Lent Reading Plan at the church with key verses and suggested food donations for the Pantry. Each day you will be able to read an inspiring verse of scripture, and then set aside (or purchase) a donation for the Pantry. Please bring your donations to the church and put them in the bin marked “Reverse Lent Project.” Contact Cari Redondo through the church office if you have questions about this giving project.

Lenten Suppers – Thanks to the following groups who will serve our Wednesday Lenten suppers from 5:15-6:30 pm:

February 14 – EDGE, potato bar

February 21 – Wednesday Night Live, taco bar

February 28 –  Confirmation small group, tba

March 7 – EDGE, tba

March 14 – staff, pizza

March 21- Wee Wisdom, meatball subs

Your freewill offerings at these suppers help support mission efforts by our groups, such as the EDGE mission trip  this summer to Houston, TX; Wednesday Night Live’s shopping trip to benefit the Crossroads Mission Food Pantry; and Wee Wisdom’s gift to Heifer International.
