Dear Friends in Christ,
God has asked us to run a marathon. We are “in training” on this road of life. Pastor Denny spoke last Sunday of Jesus sending 72 disciples out to cities (more than just 12 disciples). Yes, Jesus asks us to also become disciples and to “Therefore, go and make disciples . . . teaching them. . . ” Matthew 28:19-20
As we read thru the bible, when God’s people were without a leader, they looked to God for guidance. We need guidance. Pray for it, right now, for our community.
Our Adult Faith Development needs a boost. We are developing classes for:
- Doubters (believing people but those who still question who?, how?, and why?)
- How do I?. . . pray, study the bible, use music for worshiping Him
- What does the Bible say about . . . money, health, relationships, parenting, dying, really living, etc.
We need facilitators. Facilitating a class is a great way to learn alongside class participants. If you think you don’t have what it takes, remember: Moses (made excuses), David (others didn’t believe he had it in him), Jonah (thought he knew better than God), Nehemiah (was worried of what others thought), and Saul/Paul (did everything he could to stop discipleship). God has given you gifts. He has a better plan for you. Overlook your shortcomings and prayerfully ask Him if this is something you are to do.
We will be in touch.

Loving God, be with us and guide us during this time of discernment. Fill our leaders with your wisdom. Keep us mindful of the work you would have us do. Lead us and guide us, O Lord, to be about the work of your kingdom even as the search for a new pastor continues. Bless all who have taken on extra responsibility, and fill them with a sense of your love and presence. We pray in your Son’s name, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
FLY (Feeding Lunches to Youth) // The Feeding Lunches to Youth (FLY) program prepares sack lunches in the summer to needy youth in the Marion & Linn Mar districts. LCR volunteers help pack lunches or deliver & serve at the designated sites on Mondays throughout the summer. Kids and teens are welcome to serve with an adult. Sign up today!
Churches of Marion Food Pantry // Summer is the time of year when food donations go DOWN, due to lack of food drives and fewer donations coming in from participating churches, and demand goes UP, as kids are not receiving school-based meals. Can you help us fill the gap this summer for local families? You can donate items directly (list on bulletin board), or help us fund our purchases. Food donations are accepted at the bins in the gathering space. Monetary donations may be sent to the Pantry (864 – 12th St. in Marion). THANKS SO MUCH for your continued support!
Are you 55 or older? Would you like to get together with people and make new friends? Help us explore a 55+ group at Resurrection – a social group for men & women who are single, married, divorced, or widowed. Meet me in the fellowship hall on Sunday, July 14th at 9:30, and we’ll toss some ideas around. Hope to see you there! – Sharon Hill (319-895-8644)
Knitting Group // Join this group each Thursday from 6:30 – 8:30 pm. They have needles and yarn for making hospice blankets. In addition, we’re looking for junior knitters/crocheters to spearhead a new project – scarves for the homeless. We’re very happy to teach people how to knit or crochet, so join us sometime! Call Pam Kacena with questions (360-5165).
Lifetree Cafe // We are offering this popular program at 9:05 am each Sunday this summer. Grab your coffee and snacks, and join us in the fellowship hall. Feel free to invite outside friends as we have conversations about topics relevant to anyone. This week we will discuss “Declutter Your Life”
Summer Novel Conversations // We’ve put together a great list of books for your summer reading. Each of these books can be borrowed at local libraries or purchased in a variety of formats. If you are one who enjoys talking over a good book after you’ve read it, we’ll have discussion sessions at 9:05 am each Sunday this summer in the church lounge. This week we’re talking about The Shack.
55+ Fellowship Interest Meeting // Sunday, July 14, 9:30 AM // Meet in the center of the fellowship hall to talk about what a new 55+ fellowship ministry might look like
