Resurrection at Swamp Fox

A parade on Saturday. Worship in the park on Sunday. Food and music. Lots of music.

That about sums up the great weekend we had at Marion’s annual Swamp Fox Festival.

Resurrection has been hosting Sunday in the Park for the past five years. Each year it gets a little bit bigger and better. This year, with the help of the Swamp Fox planning committee, we were able to bring in two great bands to compliment three local church bands. Among the Thirsty from Cleawater, Florida and Hyland from the Twin Cities area headlined an afternoon concert that began with bands from Living Water UMC and Marion Christian as well as our own With Faith praise band.

A Children’s Activity area was set up in the park that included inflatable play zones and face painting. The food booth and popcorn stand, combined with the undesignated offering taken during worship raised close to $1000 for local ministries working in partnership to build the kingdom of God in our community.

Our thanks go out to the many people who give of their time and energy to make this day in the park such a wonderful time.

Donation Opportunities

Book of Faith initiative

Book of Faith

Resurrection has joined the Book of Faith initiative begun by the ELCA. The Book of Faith initiative is an effort by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America to increase the Biblical literacy of church members. The initiative includes the publication of a Lutheran Study Bible and several new Bible studies available for small groups and indiviual study. To learn more about the ELCA Book of Faith initiative go to

Another part of the initiative is a Book of Faith online social network. The social network is similar to Facebook and Myspace networks where you can set up your page, have friends, post on each other’s pages and join various conversations and groups. Resurrection has started a private group for members of the church to engage in conversation and Bible study. After registering on the Bokk of faith network you can click on the GROUPS tab at the top of the page and do a search for LCR Marion. Because it is a private group you will need to request to be a member.

50th Anniversary Celebrations

50th Anniversary Celebrations

2009 will mark the 50th anniversary of Lutheran Church of the Resurrection. A series of celebrations marking different milestones in the life of the congregation have been planned. The special weekend remembrances are as follows:

January 11, 2009– this will mark the 50th anniversary of the signing of the charter. We will have a 50th birthday party on that Sunday with cake served all morning.

March 1, 2009– this Sunday is the 50th anniversary of the first service at Longfellow School. Plans are for having a “50’s Sock Hop” on Saturday night (February 28) in the fellowship hall, and a nice breakfast brunch on Sunday. We want to lift up the ministry of Bill Biedermann during the 1960’s and recognize the charter members and those who joined in those first years.

June 12-14, 2009- this weekend will be a homecoming for all former pastors of Resurrection, with a special emphasis on the ministry of Otto Zwanziger during the 1970’s. There will be a Friday night cookout; a Saturday night concert of all Resurrection choirs and bands; and then a Sunday celebration with a catered meal at noon. On Sunday morning we will involve all the former pastors in various ways during worship. This is the weekend we would especially invite you two to come and celebrate with us.

October 11, 2009 this Sunday marks the 50th anniversary of the groundbreaking for the new church on 18th Avenue. We will remember that special day where the leaders and members of LCR turned shovels of dirt to begin a new chapter in our history. We will also lift up Dick Lehmann’s ministry during the 1980’s/90’s on this weekend.
