Dennis Johnson: Senior Pastor
Dennis came to Resurrection in 2000 after serving as pastor at Emmons Lutheran Church in Emmons, Minnesota (1992-2000) and at Gloria Dei Lutheran in Tomah, Wisconsin (1986-1992). He is a native of New Hampton, Iowa and graduated from University of Northern Iowa (1977) and Luther Seminary (1986). Prior to seminary Dennis served as Youth Minister at Vinje Lutheran Church, Willmar, MN (1977-1980) and Midvale Lutheran Church, Madison, WI (1980-82). Dennis is married and has two children.
Pastor Dennis shares preaching and worship leadership, leads studies in our Adult Faith Development program, and works directly with church administration, council, and staff on their various roles in our shared ministry. He is also involved with bible camp promotion.
Miranda Klosterboer: Associate Pastor
Miranda came to Resurrection in 2016. She was raised in Cedar Rapids and Lisbon, Iowa and served previously at Good Shepherd Lutheran in Lena, Illinois. Miranda and her husband joyously welcomed a son to their family in 2016! Pastor Miranda joins in preaching and pastoral care, and leads our Confirmation Ministry.
Jill Hansen was hired to partner in our Children’s Ministry program in 2008 and then as the Wednesday Night Live Director in 2009. She is also in charge of Middle School & Family events. She lives in Marion with her husband, Gary; they have three sons. Jill grew up in Storm Lake, Iowa and is a graduate of the University of Iowa. She has been a member of LCR since 1999. Previously, she taught at a Christian preschool for 6 years. She loves music, reading, sports, and the Hawkeyes. She enjoys traveling with her ‘boys’ and having fun with the LCR kids.
Jessi Heidelbauer: Sunday School Director and Co-Director of Children’s Ministries
Jessi joined the staff in 2017 to take charge of Sunday School and Elementary Day Camp. She grew up in Marion and has been a member of Resurrection since 2006. Jessi has a heart for working with children and has been working on development & discipleship at Camp Chisomo in Malawi, Africa since 2013. Jessi has served in many areas of ministry here at LCR and enjoys attending church here with her family. She will graduate from Iowa State University in 2018.
Katie Kascel: Director of Youth & Young Adult Ministries
Katie has been attending Resurrection since Fall of 2011. She was born and raised in Marion, and received a degree in Child, Adult, and Family Services (Youth focus) from Iowa State University. She loves Jesus, children, music, books, friends, and her family. She has a heart for missions, and has been working with orphans at Camp Chisomo in Malawi, Africa since 2010. Katie joined the staff in 2012. She loves working with EDGE!
Aaron Schutte: With Faith director
Aaron began his music ministry at Resurrection in 2017, leading our contemporary worship band, With Faith. He is also a stay-at-home dad of two young children. He and his wife, Allison, have served as ELCA missionaries in Tanzania where they taught at a local elementary school. Aaron led contemporary worship for four years at Wartburg College while earning his degree in elementary education. His first experience at LCR was leading EWALU day camps in 2006 and 2007.
Cari grew up in Manchester, Iowa, graduated from Luther College, and worked in corporate marketing for a number of years. Ready for a life change, she resigned and became a stay-at-home mom, freelance graphic designer, and volunteer. She has loved music her whole life, and has participated on a worship team for more than 15 years. In 2016 she undertook direction of the wonderful Evening Song music team.
Ruth came to Resurrection in the Fall of 2012 after having previously served as organist at Marion Christian, First United Methodist, and Lovely Lane United Methodist. She grew up in Marion and graduated from Linn-Mar High School and then Simpson College. Ruth recently retired from teaching elementary music in the Alburnett district and she lives in Cedar Rapids with her husband, Steve.
Matthew has been a life-long member of LCR, and now serves as pianist for the Evening Song worship team and director of the youth handbell group, JuBellation, which is always looking for new kiddos! In addition to playing handbells, guitar, and piano for several years, Matthew holds a degree in art history and criticism from Kirkwood College and a certificate in organ music from Brigham Young University. In his free time Matthew loves to practice and perform original music, try new restaurants, spend time with family, and spread as much love as possible.
Cheryl is a daughter of Resurrection, having been confirmed here in 1972. She is a graduate of Luther College and the University of Iowa and is currently employed as a nurse at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Church music is a lifelong passion for Cheryl. She played organ for Resurrection in high school, she received an LPM Certificate in Church Music after completing their Leadership Program for Musicians in 2007, and she recently retired after 20 years as an organist at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Grinnell. She and her husband Mark have two grown sons, Ben and Kyle. Cheryl is sharing her talent on the organ one Sunday each month at First Light Worship.
Tyler Hagy: Choir director
Tyler Hagy is an active performer, conductor, and educator, based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He currently serves as Associate Director of Choral Activities at Linn-Mar High School in Marion, Iowa. He holds degrees from the University of Cincinnati Conservatory; the University of Cambridge, UK; and from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. At Linn-Mar High School he conducts the curricular choirs Chamber Singers, Concert Chorale, and Cantemus; and the prep show choir Hi-Style. He also teaches AP Music Theory. Outside of school, he loves to read, watch TV, cook, and participate in live theater.
Laurie Stock has been directing the Resurrection Ringers since 2001. She got her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education, Music, and Spanish at the University of Northern Iowa and a master’s degree at the University of Texas Pan American in Gifted & Talented Education. Laurie lives in Marion with her husband, Kent, and two daughters, Kendrie and Kylee.
Barb Hazelton grew up in Tama, Iowa and moved to Cedar Rapids in 1975 to attend Kirkwood College, where she received a 2-year business degree. She started working at Rockwell Collins in 1980 and has been a member of LCR since 1985. Barb has served on the Worship Committee, Council, and currently on Altar Guild, plus she sings in the Resurrection Choir and organizes and sings in the Galileans women’s choir. Barb enjoys bowling and Iowa Women’s Basketball. She lives in Cedar Rapids with her husband Jim and their
Marcia Edwards: Volunteer Coordinator
Marcia is from Correctionville, Iowa but has lived in Marion for the last thirty years. She taught mathematics in western Iowa, Frankfurt, Germany, and an Indian girls boarding school in South Dakota. While raising her children she was involved in a multitude of volunteer projects. She and her husband Larry have 2 children and 4 grandchildren.
Evelyn Beck: Office Manager & Treasurer
Evelyn and her husband Les have been members since November of 2000 when they relocated to Cedar Rapids from Ames. Evelyn started working at Resurrection in 2008. She volunteers pretty much everywhere at the church and sings with the Wednesday evening worship team. Her hobbies are watercolor painting, her garden, and her grandchildren.
Emily Carson: Office Assistant
Emily has been at Resurrection since 2003. She is responsible for worship slides, mailings, and answering the phone. Emily loves music, reading, naps, social dancing, and this fine planet.
Marsie joined the staff at Resurrection in 2016. She is our day-time janitor. Marsie has lived in the Cedar Rapids area most of her life and spent many years working at Cedar Memorial. She enjoys time with her husband, grown daughters, and young son.
Jamie joined the staff at Resurrection in 2016. He comes in the late afternoons and evenings to clean and take care of our set-ups & tear-downs. Jamie works at one of the local grade schools during the day and is very relieved to get home to his family after helping us here at LCR. If you run into Jamie around town and he doesn’t seem to know you, don’t be offended! Jamie actually has an identical twin.
