Resurrection E-news: Sunday, May 20, 2018

Dear members and friends of LCR,

This Sunday, May 20th, is Pentecost Sunday, with the reception of new members and anthems by the Resurrection Choir at 8:15 & 9:45, and the confirmation service for our 26 8th graders at 11:00. On Pentecost Sunday, we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit and the ways in which the Holy Spirit continues to move in and through the church as the Holy Spirit calls us to faith and unites us in community with one another. Remember to wear something red in celebration of the coming of the Holy Spirit!

There are other upcoming events and opportunities that we want to alert you to through this weekly e-note. Our website (www.lcrmarion.org) provide more details on each topic.

Blessings to you,

Pastor Dennis

GIVE

General Fund gifts support our local ministries and programs along with our mission partners locally and around the world. Through April, we received 103% of what was needed for General Fund ministries through April! Thanks for your generous, faithful support! As we head into the summer months, your support will be needed more than ever for our ministries like preschool VBS, day camp, and scholarships for campers going to EWALU. If you will be absent from worship this summer, note the ways you can give electronically listed below.

Giving through VANCO – You can give electronically to LCR through: the giving kiosk by the library or the Give+ mobile app, available from Google Play or iTunes. Once your information has been entered on the app, you can give to LCR anytime, anywhere. Another option is to send a text message to the number (319) 320-1628 from your mobile phone. You will receive a one-time registration link to enter credit or debit card payment information. After that, you can simply text the amount you want to give and it will process automatically.

Simply Giving – You can elect to have a weekly or monthly gift withdrawn from your checking or savings account. Enrollment forms are in the info rack by the Welcome Center. Over a third of our General Fund offerings come from Simply Giving families.

Your gifts to the Growth & Outreach Fund in May will provide salary, benefits, and housing for our seminary intern, Alyssa Weaver; facility maintenance and repair; and  support of Marion Cares after-school programming and the home we partnered in building with Habitat for Humanity. So far in 2018 we have given over $3400 each to Marion Cares and Habitat for Humanity; our goal for 2018 is $10,000 for Marion Cares and $15,000 for Habitat.

May-June mission envelopes are designated for the Community Health Free Clinic in Cedar Rapids. The Clinic provides medical, dental, vision, and prescription services for under-served people in our community. LCR members and friends gave $761 in March & April for the ELCA’s “40 Days of Giving” project, to support those in need in Malawi. Thanks for your generosity!
