Dear members and friends of LCR,
This Sunday, March 25, is Palm/Passion Sunday. EDGE youth will lead our Palm/Passion Sunday worship at 9:45 & 11. The Resurrection Ringers will share an anthem at 8:15 and 9:45. Pastor Miranda will preach on the stories of Holy Week. Today, we begin our week-long reflection on the passion of our Lord Jesus Christ and the salvation of the world through Jesus’ sufferings, death, burial, and resurrection. Join us as we worship with palms and celebrate Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. Jesus knows that his triumphal entry will lead to his suffering and death, but he continues in order to seek and save all who are lost in their sins through his death on the cross.
There are other upcoming events and opportunities that we want to alert you to through this weekly e-note. Our website (www.lcrmarion.org) provide more details on each topic.
Blessings to you,

Stephen Ministers Available to Offer Care – There are times when every one of us experiences difficulties. In times of trouble, we look to caring Christian friends to listen to us while we work through our feelings. A Stephen Minister can be such a friend either to you or to someone you know. Our Stephen Ministers are members of our congregation who have received 50 hours of training to minister to people experiencing a crisis or going through a difficult time in life. These Stephen Ministers are committed to providing Christian care for others experiencing many different needs. If you or someone you know could benefit from the trained, caring presence and listening ear of a Stephen Minister, contact Pastor Miranda Klosterboer (Stephen Leader) at 815-291-5793 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Why? Making Sense of God’s Will, featuring a book and DVD by Adam Hamilton, begins this Sunday, March 25, in the far end of fellowship hall. This week’s topic is “Why Do the Innocent Suffer?” Pastor Dennis and our intern Alyssa will take turns leading the discussion following the video.

“Reverse Lent” Giving Project – thanks to all who have given so generously to the Marion Food Pantry through our Giving Project. Any and all gifts are welcome in this last week of Lent- you can drop them off in the bin by the gathering space table.
Marion Cares – Help us by preparing and serving a meal to our Marion Cares kids this winter/spring. Dinners will be needed at Marion Village on Mondays: April 9 or May 7; and sack lunches for Thursday, May 10. The meals can be quite simple – recipes for Walking Tacos and BBQ Chicken Sandwiches are posted on the entryway bulletin board – or you can use one of your own favorites. This is a project you can do with your family, co-workers, friends, or small group – anyone who wants to make a positive impact on local children’s lives! Sign up by contacting Jen at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Your gifts to the Growth & Outreach Fund in March will provide salary, benefits, and housing for our seminary intern, Alyssa Weaver; funds for Camp Chisomo scholarships for youth and adults going to Malawi in June; and facility maintenance. Our support of Marion Cares and Habitat for Humanity projects will resume once the $5,000 goal for scholarships is met. In February we received $7,997 for the Growth & Outreach Fund, and set aside $2400 for Camp Chisomo scholarships.
General Fund gifts support our local ministries and programs led by our staff and carried out by our members and friends. Your General Fund gifts also support our mission partners locally and around the world. Our monthly need will be about $57,800 for an annual budget of $693,350. Through February we received 97% of what was promised from our General Fund commitments in the 2018 Fund Appeal. Thanks for your generous, faithful support so far in 2018!
March-April mission envelopes are designated for the ELCA “40 Days of Giving” emphasis. Malawi health & wellness projects and education & vocational training needs will be supported through this emphasis.
