Churches of Marion Food Pantry
Thank you to LCR members for your support of the Churches of Marion Food Pantry! In 2016 the volunteers served 3,281 households representing 9,266 people. We are open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1-3 pm.
We are taking the next steps to strengthen the organization to make sure we can deliver for our clients in the future. Two areas that require more attention are purchasing teams and volunteer coordination. A brief description follows.
Purchasing Teams: We have established two three-person teams to buy food for the weekly needs. We would like two more teams, so each team would be responsible for purchasing once a month, for a total of 2-4 hours. One of the three team members will be responsible to coordinate the team and be responsible for the debit card.
Volunteer Coordination: The volunteer coordinator would be responsible for setting and communicating a monthly schedule for distribution helpers. Many distribution teams are scheduled at the same time each month so the repeat contact is minimized. Also, there is a list of volunteers who are “on call” if a sub is needed. Currently, this takes 1-2 hours per week, but the process could probably be somewhat streamlined.
Please contact the church office for more information, or if you are interested in joining the Churches of Marion Food Pantry Volunteers. Thank you!
Resurrection will host a blood drive on Tuesday, February 14 for Marion Lutheran Churches members and friends. A sign-up sheet will be on the entryway bulletin board or you can call the church office to choose your time. Time slots will be available between 2:00 and 6:30 pm. Your last date to have given previously is 12/20/16.
There is one Lenten Supper still available for any church group that would like to prepare, serve, and clean up for a meal on Wednesday, March 15. That week is spring break for all local schools, but many people will still attend on this date. Your group can raise funds for your own ministry or to support a ministry beyond LCR. Please pick up a Fundraiser Request Form in the church office
Mission of Hope Lunch Program
There will be a new category on your Time & Talent choices in February. As a follow-up to this fall’s Loving Generously stewardship videos. some of us began talking about serving lunch to clients of Mission of Hope in Cedar Rapids. We are exploring how Resurrection can help in their ministry to those in need. If you would be interested in helping with the lunch feeding program there – providing food, cooking food, serving on the lunch line, or in some other way – on an occasional or regular basis, please check Mission of Hope on your sheet. Together, we will work this out. We are hoping to learn of interest from all four worship service groups. (Time & Talent Sunday is February 12th.)
