Donald H. Claussen

A funeral service will be held at 11:00am  Monday, October 18, 2010 at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection for Donald H. Claussen, 73, of Marion, who died Friday, Oct. 15, 2010, at Promise House in Hiawatha.

Don was born May 28, 1937, in Palmer, Iowa, the son of Heike and Anna (Ihnen) Claussen. Don served in the United States Army and Army Reserve. On May 29, 1960, he was united in marriage to Marlys Ann Madsen at West Liberty. Don earned degrees in social work from Wartburg College and the University of Nebraska, and worked for Iowa DHS, Lutheran Family Service, and for 21 years at Grant Wood Area Education Agency.

He was a member of Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, where he belonged to the choir, The Older Hymns, served on many committees, and taught youth and adult Sunday school.

Don is survived by his wife Marlys; a daughter, Becky of Moline, Ill., and son Mark of Cedar Rapids; a granddaughter, Veda Largent; and siblings, Elsena Hohensee of Albert City, Harvey (Caroll) Schoon of Fort Dodge and Marlene (Pat) Flaherty of Pocahontas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Frank Schoon; and two sisters, Anita Engel and Mardella Janssen.

Guests are welcome to to stay at the church following the service or go with the family to the cemetery before returning to the church for lunch and fellowship.
