Confirmation

baptismal fontsmallWhen youth are ready to begin looking deeper into their faith, we provide an opportunity for growth and community building. During their 6th, 7th, & 8th grade years adolescents may participate in the confirmation program in order to prepare for their affirmation of baptism (a ceremony in which youth make a public statement of faith). Small groups of 3-6 kids are matched with an adult guide as they explore life within the body of Christ. The program meets Wednesdays from 7:00-8:30 pm & consists of large group presentations, small group discussion, service & fellowship events. Each year we learn about two of the Marks of Discipleship.

During the 2011-12 school year we will be exploring what it is that we do when we gather as a community for worship.  We begin with a look at different ways to worship recorded in the Bible and then compare that with what we do today in our own setting.  In the spring we will  learn what it means to Serve others and how God has created and gifted each of to serve in a special way.

At the end of three years of Confirmation Class each student picks a Christian adult who will be a Mentor. The student and Mentor meet four times over the course of the summer to talk about faith as it relates to family, work and life in general. Then in the fall the 9th grade class goes on a weekend retreat to EWALU to begin working on a faith statement that will be published on the day of their confirmation.

About

Lutheran Church of the Resurrection exists to welcome people to faith in Jesus Christ; equip them with a faith that works in real life; and send them into the world to serve in Jesus’ name.

Five Purposes Of Resurrection

  • Evangelism: An inviting hand that reaches out to others with the story of God’s great Love.

  • Discipleship: An earnest mind that grows in knowledge and faith and helps us become more Christ-like in our thoughts, words, and daily life.

  • Ministry: A compassionate spirit that heals hurts, gives hope, and works for justice in the name of Jesus.

  • Worship: A thankful heart for worship and celebration that gives glory to God and brings us closer to Christ.

  • Fellowship: A welcoming voice that encourages and supports Christian fellowship.
