Lutheran Church of the Resurrection E-news: June 25, 2017

Dear members and friends of LCR,

This Sunday, June 25, we will continue our  sermon series on Moses: the Reluctant Prophet. We’ll go on a video trip with Adam Hamilton to Egypt and visit the sites and stories of the showdown between Moses and Pharaoh, the ten plagues, the Passover, and the flight through the Reed Sea to freedom in the wilderness. Pastor Miranda will preach on this amazing story and look for connections to our daily lives.

Mark your calendars for the first two Sundays in July. On July 2 & 5, the Malawi Mission Trip group will share stories and video of their recent trip to Africa and how Camp Chisomo went this year. On July 9, we will have one service outdoors at 10:15, with a potluck to follow. More details can be found below.

There are other upcoming events and opportunities that we want to alert you to through this weekly e-note. Our website (www.lcrmarion.org) provide more details on each topic.

Pastor Dennis

Our Malawi Mission Trip group left on June 3 and returned safely on June 22. Come and hear their stories on Sunday, July 2nd at both services (or on Wednesday, July 5 at 6 pm).

Outdoor Worship on July 9 This event will be held on Sunday, July 9 at 10:15 am, led by the With Faith & Evening Song worship teams, with additional music from the Galileans. If it’s raining, we will move it indoors. Bring your own lawn chairs, or you can sit in the fellowship hall and listen through the open windows. SERVE

Matthew 25 will host their Transform Week from  June 26 – 30. LCR has been asked by Matthew 25 to provide lunches for 60 workers on Wednesday, June 28. If you would be able to provide a dessert, bring it to the kitchen by 10 am on Wednesday. We will purchase sandwiches and other items for the workers. If you would like to help prepare and/or serve the meal, come to the kitchen at 10 to make sandwiches or meet us at the Matthew 25 offices (201 3rd Ave SW in Cedar Rapids) around 11:30.

FLY (Feeding Lunches to Youth) is looking for a few items to help offset costs for our meals this year. If you are able, please pick up some squeeze bottles of yellow mustard, mayo, and/or grape jelly and place them in the marked bin in the gathering space. Thank you for helping local kids have a good lunch each weekday this summer.

Summer Sidekicks will be needed for Marion Cares Summer program beginning June 12th. Adult and high school volunteers are welcome to help us Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays from 11 am to 1 pm. Contact information to sign up is on the entryway bulletin board, or email laura@marioncares.org. Save the date of Saturday, July 29th for the Marion Cares “Uplift Uptown” from 3-6 pm in Marion Square Park. This will be a “friend-raiser” with church bands, food, and testimonials from kids, parents, and staff on the ministry of Marion Cares.

GIVE

Mission Envelope Gifts for May and June are going to the Community Free Health Clinic in Cedar Rapids. The medical clinic serves uninsured and underserved patients on a first-come, first-served basis, free of charge – no appointment needed. They also serve dental needs, eye care, and help with prescriptions. Their website – www.communityhfc.org – has wonderful ministry stories of how the Clinic makes a difference in the lives of people in need.

As summer begins, our support for youth ministry goes way up for EWALU camper scholarships, day camp expenses, and the high school mission trip. Your financial support over these months is critical in helping transform young lives through these experiences. As you head out on vacation, remember to support your church with your prayers and your offerings. Thanks to those who use Simply Giving to help us keep an steady cash flow through the summer months.
