The people of Resurrection observed Bright Sunday (sometimes known as Joy Sunday) with laughter and a bit of silliness in worship on April 15th. Rejoicing in the resurrection of our Lord we passed out “liturgical paraphernalia” to help everyone in worship be reminded that we don’t need to take ourselves so seriously after Jesus’ victory on the cross.

Maundy Thursday, April 5, 7:00pm
From the Latin mandatum, or mandate, we gather to recall Jesus’ command to “Do this in remembrance of me.”  In addition to celebrating the sacrament of Holy Communion we welcome the youth who have completed preparations for their first communion with us.

Good Friday, April 6, 7:00pm
This service of remembrance is based on the ancient Tenebrae service of readings. Over the course of the service the entire story of Jesus’ arrest, trial and crucifixion will be told with time to reflect quietly and in song after each part of the story is told.

Easter Sunday, April 8,8:15 – A traditional Easter worship service with brass and organ
9:45 & 11:00 –  An Easter celebration with contemporary Christian music
At all three of our Easter morning worship services we will celebrate Holy Communion and hear the sermon “A Garden Surprise.”

Easter Brunch: Sunday 9:00-11:00
Fresh cinnamon rolls, egg bakes, fruit salad, juice, coffee & milk will be served in the Fellowship Hall for a free-will donation. All proceeds support the 44 people going to serve on the high school mission trip this summer in Minnesota.

Note: Lutheran Church of the Resurrection believes that all people are welcome at Holy Communion. If you commune at a home church you are welcome to commune with us. If you have no church home and simply desire the presence of God that is found in the bread and wine you are also welcome to receive the sacrament.

In the April 2012 issue of Crosstalk you will find information about our Holy Week and Easter schedules for worship and fellowship events. If you are interested in becoming a member or just finding out more about Resurrection there will be classes starting this month as well. A middle School retreat at EWALU is scheduled for April and you will find information about all the regular activities and programs that going on all month long.

April 2012 Calendar of Church Events 

On Saturday, April 28th we will head to Ewalu Bible Camp to stay in the new Walnut Lodge for an overnight retreat.  We will use this time to build new relationships and strengthen others and to grow in our understanding of who God is through his creation.  Activities will include: Use of the high/low ropes courses, hayrack ride, outdoor activities with some of the high school student leaders, campfire worship with s’mores, and more!  The cost per person will be $80 and will include lodging, dinner on Saturday night and breakfast on Sunday morning, snacks, and all activities.  NO CELL PHONES OR iPOD/iPAD/MP3 PLAYERS OR ANY OTHER ELECTRONIC DEVICES WILL BE ALLOWED!  Please email carterm@lcrmarion.org to register.  Friends are welcome to come.  If you do not have an LCR release form filled out here is a link to print one off (just print page 2) http://lcrmarion.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/2011-12-Registration-Forms.pdf.  You must have this filled out and be paid in full before leaving on Saturday.

We will meet at the church at 12:45pm on Saturday and will return to the church for pickup by 11:30am on Sunday morning.  We are in need of adult drivers/leaders for the retreat.  If you would be able to drive but would not prefer to spend the night that is fine.  Please email carterm@lcrmarion.org if you can help out.

Ash Wednesday & Lenten Worship begin February 22.

Services will be at 6 & 7 pm each Wednesday.

Lenten Suppers will be 5:30-7:00 pm each week.

February 22: IGNITE Young Adult ministry – soup supper to support Unakho Children’s Home in Cape Town, South Africa

February 29: E.D.G.E. – potato bar to fund high school mission trip to Cass Lake Indian Reservation in Minnesota

March 7: Wednesday Night Live – taco bar to benefit Crossroads Mission

March 14: Resurrection Choir – soups, etc. to fund new choir robes

March 21: Comforting Hands Quilters – scalloped potatoes and ham

March 28: College Mission Trips: meal will support students going to Malawi, Ghana, South Africa, Zambia and Brazil this spring and summer.

All families are encouraged to participate together in daily devotions throughout Lent this year.
Devotion booklets are available at the Adult Faith Development table in the gathering area.
Weekly devotions are also being held each Sunday during Lent at 9:45 in the fellowship hall….
a great opportunity to learn new ways to hold a devotion at home!
