This Sunday, August 13, is Mission Trip Sunday. Our EDGE youth and adults will share about their experiences on their mission trip to Washington, D.C. in July. An added treat will be the EDGE Band as they lead us in songs at 10:15. At the 8:15 service, there will be spirited duets on piano and organ by Cheryl Irland and Ruth Armstrong.

Alyssa Weaver, our Luther seminary intern, began her ministry with us on August 1. She will lead worship at both services on Sunday. Our Internship Committee is complete. Thanks to Nora Read, Carrie Klein, John Hanson, Julie Jensen, Rick Ironside, and Linda Erlandson for agreeing to serve.
Our sympathies to Nicole & Andy McRoberts and family and Marcia Adix on the death of Pastor Jim Adix on August 4th. Pastor Jim served as an interim pastor here at LCR in 2014-2015. There will be a visitation at Our Saviors Lutheran in Cedar Rapids on Friday, August 18 from 4 – 7 pm. The funeral will be in Strawberry Point at Emmanuel Lutheran on Saturday, August 19 at 11 am.
Aaron Schutte, our new contemporary worship director, will begin his music ministry on Sunday, August 27th. Aaron is a 2009 graduate of Wartburg College, where he led worship for three years. He served as an ELCA missionary in Tanzania for three years and also worked at EWALU Bible Camp for two summers. Aaron lives in Independence with his wife and two children.
Tyler Hagy has accepted the position of Choir Director at Resurrection. Tyler is a new vocal music teacher at Linn-Mar High School. He is a 2013 Luther College graduate in Music and Theatre/Dance, and sang in Luther’s Nordic Choir. He has advanced degrees from the University of Cambridge, UK and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Choir practice will begin on Wednesday, September 13.
Confirmation begins Wednesday, August 30, with the Fall Confirmation Orientation Night for all parents, students, and guides. This orientation will be from 7:00-8:15 in the worship room. Confirmation Ministry includes discipleship training, prayer, fun, and friendship for 6th-8th graders on Wednesday evenings from 7:00-8:15.
Youth Discipleship Program registration forms for Sunday School, Wednesday Night Live, and Confirmation are in the gathering space now. Fill them out thoroughly and return as soon as you can. Many are available online at this site. Others will be posted shortly.
Fellowship Time is held in the café on Sunday mornings from 9:15-10:15 am. The menu includes Dunkin’ Donuts, Kettel House pastries, juice, and coffee. Come and connect with your Resurrection family this Sunday before or after worship.
Take Away Hunger packaging event will be held on Sunday, August 27 at 9:15, 10:15, and 11:15 am. You can sign up at the gathering space table today or online anytime – http://signup.com/go/QVsjeWb (Take Away Hunger Event August 2017). We are encouraging people to invite friends and family to participate, and can add more time slots if needed. We will be packing the rice & beans meal this time, which will be sent to the Crisis Center in Iowa City. If you have any questions, please contact Jill Hansen at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Stephen Ministry Class to Begin – In October, our Stephen Leader Team will begin training some of the members of our congregation to serve as Stephen Ministers. Applications for the class are available now. Do you feel a calling to care for others who are hurting? Do you desire the personal joy that comes from sharing Christ’s love with people? Operation Christmas Child Event will be held at Resurrection in November. Please consider doing some Back-to-School shopping for children in need throughout the world. We include basic school supplies in our boxes and are asking for the following donations: Crayons, Colored Pencils, Regular Pencils, Pens, Pencil Sharpeners (always need lots of these), Solar-Powered Calculators, Small Notebooks, Coloring Books, Markers (narrow and broad tip), Metric Rulers, Small Drawstring Bags, Erasers, Pencil Cases (soft-sided or small plastic case), T-shirts (in all sizes – many are on clearance now). There is a tub in the Gathering Space near the registration table for the items. Thank you!
Mission Envelope Gifts for July & August are going to the Catherine McAuley Center in Cedar Rapids. The Center provides one-on-one tutoring for adult learners and a transitional housing program specifically designed for women and their unique needs in overcoming poverty and homelessness.
