Resurrection E-news: June 18, 2017

Dear members and friends of LCR,

This Sunday, June 18, we will continue a six-week sermon series on Moses: the Reluctant Prophet. A highlight this week will be a video trip to Egypt and Mt. Sinai, narrated by Adam Hamilton. I will share some thoughts in the sermon on God’s call to Moses from the burning bush to lead his people out of slavery to freedom. Connections will be made to our lives through four questions: How do you deal with injustice in our day? What happens when the bottom falls out and you end up in a wilderness like Moses? Where is your holy ground? How can you respond to God’s call to do difficult things for this world?

A reminder that our summer worship schedule is Sundays at 8:15 & 10:15, and Wednesday nights at 6.

There are other upcoming events and opportunities that we want to alert you to through this weekly e-note. Our website ( provide more details on each topic.

See you on Sunday!

Pastor Dennis

This summer, campers will explore water as one symbol of Christian spiritual life. Day camp kids will dive into Bible stories that shower them with awareness of God’s love for them – especially the life-giving grace God gives us through Jesus Christ. Campers at Ewalu experience and celebrate God’s grace in ways that have a lasting effect on character, empathy, and faith.

January 15 & 18: Seeing the Light

Today’s gospel from John 1:29-42 begins with John the Baptist pointing not to himself but to Jesus as “the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.”  In a world where people often point to themselves through various social media, the gospel calls us to point to Jesus, the light of the world. This Sunday also reminds us of our own epiphanies, our own moments of “seeing the light.” Sometimes it is sudden, like Andrew and Simon as Jesus calls them to be his disciples. Often it is a slow, gradual process over a lifetime. Preacher: Pastor Dennis

Camp Chisomo Film Premiere & Dinner

Sunday, October 2 & 5:  Increase our Faith  – Pastor Miranda preaches.

Do you ever wonder if you have enough faith? Do you ever wonder, “Can I/we really do this?” The disciples say to Jesus, “Increase our faith.”  We, too, can feel inadequate in faith, discouraged in our ability to make a difference, or wonder if we have what is needed to make it through. In our reading for today, Jesus encourages the disciples (and us) with truths about faith and about putting faith into action.

Although we won’t be getting on a plane, all of us will get the chance to experience life in Malawi through dinner and a short film that documents the progress and development of Camp Chisomo. Join us in the worship room at 5:oo pm for the film, then come to the fellowship hall for a traditional Malawian meal. Any free-will offerings you may be moved to give will go towards an agricultural project promoting sustainability in Camp Chisomo’s village in Malawi.
