January 15 & 18: Seeing the Light

WORSHIP on SUNDAY & WEDNESDAY:

Today’s gospel from John 1:29-42 begins with John the Baptist pointing not to himself but to Jesus as “the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.”  In a world where people often point to themselves through various social media, the gospel calls us to point to Jesus, the light of the world. This Sunday also reminds us of our own epiphanies, our own moments of “seeing the light.” Sometimes it is sudden, like Andrew and Simon as Jesus calls them to be his disciples. Often it is a slow, gradual process over a lifetime. Preacher: Pastor Dennis

DISCIPLESHIP on SUNDAY:

Christianity’s Family Tree: What Other Christians Believe and Why – Our video course continues today at 9:45 with a look at Pentecostalism.

Sunday School – Preschool through 5th graders meet in the education wing at 9:45 and learn about God’s love!

Camp Chisomo Film Premiere & Dinner

Sunday, October 2 & 5:  Increase our Faith  – Pastor Miranda preaches.

Do you ever wonder if you have enough faith? Do you ever wonder, “Can I/we really do this?” The disciples say to Jesus, “Increase our faith.”  We, too, can feel inadequate in faith, discouraged in our ability to make a difference, or wonder if we have what is needed to make it through. In our reading for today, Jesus encourages the disciples (and us) with truths about faith and about putting faith into action.

WE’RE TAKING EVERYONE TO MALAWI!

Although we won’t be getting on a plane, all of us will get the chance to experience life in Malawi through dinner and a short film that documents the progress and development of Camp Chisomo. Join us in the worship room at 5:oo pm for the film, then come to the fellowship hall for a traditional Malawian meal. Any free-will offerings you may be moved to give will go towards an agricultural project promoting sustainability in Camp Chisomo’s village in Malawi.

Worship @ LCR – August 7th and 14th

Sunday, August 7, we welcome Jeff Capps, Executive Director of Cedar Valley Habitat for Humanity, who will share about the important work of Habitat in our local area and worldwide. More than 130 homes have been built since 1988 in Linn and Benton Counties by thousands of volunteers, partner families, and organizations like LCR. Come and hear the story of Habitat and how you can help families build homes, community, and hope.

Sunday, August 14, Katie Kascel and our EDGE youth & adults will share stories and video from their recent mission trip to New Orleans. With much of the relief and recovery work from Hurricane Katrina complete in New Orleans, Youth Works, who sets up the experience for our youth, has largely turned its attention to caring for the people of the city. A big part of this includes partnering with children’s programs in the community as well as serving seniors and adults with special needs.

Students from the Seats

In addition to our Kids Against Hunger packaging event this Sunday, January 31, we begin a new 3 week series called “Students from the Seats.” Each week an EDGE youth will share their testimony of how Jesus is at work in their life. This Sunday we will hear from Ally Edwards. Pastor Dennis will share some additional thoughts  on “When the Good News Sounds Bad.” Let’s all come together this Sunday to hear Ally and  reflect on the themes of rejection and acceptance in our daily lives.
