Dear members and friends of LCR,
This Sunday we will kick off a five week sermon series on “The Power of Purpose.” We’ll look at questions like: what drives your life? What drives the life of most churches? Where do we find God’s intention for our lives and His church? As we focus on the Great Commandment and the Great Commission and the five purposes that flow from those passages, we’ll also discover that they are central to our baptismal and confirmation services and are found in our church constitution. Finally, we’ll take a look at the purpose of worship and learn some new findings about worship from our recent VRG survey.
In all three worship services this weekend, we will present new Adventure Bibles to our 24 second graders. There are other upcoming events and opportunities that we want to alert you to through this weekly e-note. The monthly Crosstalk will provide more details on each topic.
See you on Sunday!
Calling all Singers – The choir is doing a special music offering on Pentecost, Sunday, June 4. Pentecost is all about the Holy Spirit, so we’ll be singing some uplifting songs! We are looking for some more voices to join us. Even if you’ve never sung in choir before, come and help us make a joyful noise. We practice on Wednesday evenings at 7:15 pm. Contact Lyn A’Hearn with questions.
Job Postings – The positions of Co-Director of Children’s Ministry and With Faith Worship Team Leader are posted on the entryway bulletin board. Applications should be turned in to Evelyn Beck in the church office by May 15th.
Wee Wisdom Preschool will be hiring an “Educational Assistant” to work with Michelle Heidelbauer, Director/Lead Teacher. This is due to the news of Tom & Shelly Beaver moving to Atlanta this summer where Tom has accepted an exciting new job. We are THANKFUL for all they have done to serve at LCR and they will be greatly missed! Job applications and information can be found on the church entryway bulletin board. Applications are due May 9th.
We Must Plant the Church: The Story of Lutherans in America meets Sunday at 9:45 am. Our video topic this week is “Working Together: Lutherans Uniting.”
Adult Bible Study meets in the conference room at 9:45 on Sunday morning. Jim & Linda Cornally are leading us through a study of Samuel and David
KIDS 4 KIDS – LCR Sunday School kids are doing special chores and saving their change to help Camp Chisomo kids. The Malawi mission trip team came and taught them a song and shared pictures of each child in Malawi. We are praying for them too! If you are tantalized by the smell of popcorn on Sunday mornings, here is your opportunity to enjoy the taste! On Sunday, May 7th, come and buy some as a “free will offering” in the Gathering Space.
Biderman Scholarships (for graduating high school seniors) and Morrissey Nursing Scholarships applications are due MONDAY, MAY 1.
Giving Tree for Camp EWALU scholarships is in the gathering space through Sunday. Pick up a tag from the tree and leave a gift for our camper scholarship fund in the backpack by the tree. If you would rather send a check by mail, make it out to LCR and put “camper scholarships” on the memo line.
Mission Envelope Gifts for May and June are going to the Community Free Health Clinic. The medical clinic serves uninsured and underserved patients on a first-come, first-served basis free of charge – no appointment needed. They also serve dental needs, eye care, and help with prescriptions. Come next Sunday to hear more about their ministry from one of their staff, Jamie Henley.
Last Sunday morning we held a dedication ceremony for our beautiful new Kurt Van Gilder Memorial Playground. Terry & Harriet Van Gilder graciously cut the ribbon for us and then the kids went nuts!
It wasn’t just the kids who had fun on the new equipment!!
Come on, ladies – don’t be hogging the merry-go-round!
After many hours of work and preparation, the brand new Wee Wisdom/Kurt Van Gilder Memorial Playground is almost complete! The equipment is in place and the safety surface has been laid down. Apparently we are only waiting for cement to cure? – or something like that – and then we can start playing! Thanks to all our fantastic volunteers, including the lunch crew, and everybody who saved HyVee receipts or donated or bought stuff at our garage sales so we could buy the equipment and supplies. VERY MOST THANKS to our good God for beautiful weather on both installation days.
But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil. Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful. (Luke 6:35-36, ESV)
