LUTHERAN CHURCH OF THE RESURRECTION e-news

Dear members and friends of LCR,

This Sunday we will continue our five week sermon series on “The Power of Purpose” with a look at the purpose of Evangelism. I will share some thoughts in the sermon on the word evangel, which means good news; how someone changed my life by sharing the good news with me in college; offer a few thoughts on the rise of evangelists in the last century; and finish with a video clip from RightNow Media about Walt, whose life was changed through hearing and reading the good news. The Sunday School kids will sing 1-2-3 at the 9:45 and 11:00 services.

There are other upcoming events and opportunities that we want to alert you to through this weekly e-note. The monthly Crosstalk and our website (www.lcrmarion.org) provide more details on each topic.

Happy Mothers Day!

LUTHERAN CHURCH OF THE RESURRECTION e-news

Dear members and friends of LCR,

This Sunday we will kick off a five week sermon series on “The Power of Purpose.” We’ll look at questions like: what drives your life? What drives the life of most churches? Where do we find God’s intention for our lives and His church? As we focus on the Great Commandment and the Great Commission and the five purposes that flow from those passages, we’ll also discover that they are central to our baptismal and confirmation services and are found in our church constitution. Finally, we’ll take a look at the purpose of worship and learn some new findings about worship from our recent VRG survey.

In all three worship services this weekend, we will present new Adventure Bibles to our 24 second graders. There are other upcoming events and opportunities that we want to alert you to through this weekly e-note. The monthly Crosstalk will provide more details on each topic.

See you on Sunday!

When the world rejects you, Jesus offers light in your darkness. Preacher: Pastor Dennis

January 22 & 15: Witnessing to the Light

January 22 & 15: Witnessing to the Light

In Matthew chapter four, Jesus calls fishermen to follow him, “Follow me, and I will make you fish for people.”  They do courageously follow and eventually witness to God’s saving presence in Jesus. God is at work in your life, and Jesus is calling you to courageously follow him. In a world that can often seem so dark, how do we see God at work and tell others about the light and love of Jesus?  Preacher: Pastor Miranda

When you come to service today/this week, make sure to pick up your copy of the 2016 Annual Report. This Sunday, the 22nd, there will be a budget forum in the church office at 9:45 am. NEXT SUNDAY, January 29th, Resurrection will hold its Annual Meeting at 12:15 pm. Please plan to attend.

Sunday School will be held at 9:45 this Sunday morning for preschool through 5th graders. Our Adult Faith Development class will also be held at 9:45 – subject for 1/22 is Methodism. All are welcome!

November 6 & 9: Loving Generously – Kind

Jesus was often suspected of wrong motives on his mission to set captives free. His friends included women looked down upon by others in society, women like Julia in today’s film. Today’s film also raises the issue of unspoken “walls” that separate people from one another – walls of race, class, and culture. What can you do this week for people who live on the other side of the “wall?” On this All Saints Sunday, we will light candles to remember departed saints, including 11 LCR saints in the past year, and consider how we can follow their example in lives of faith and commitment. Preacher: Pastor Dennis

The Church Council will host an open forum on Sunday, November 6th from 9:30-11:00 in fellowship hall. Bring your coffee and spend some time with your Council members sharing your questions, thoughts, concerns, dreams.

Advent Wreath Candle-Lighters will be needed in worship beginning Sunday, Nov. 27 through December 18 at all services. Individuals, couples, and families are all welcome. Please sign up on the back of your welcome card and specify which service and dates work for you.

Growing Older will conclude today at 9:45 am in the far end of fellowship hall. Dr. Mike Almasi and Dr. Ann Soenen will discuss medical issues of aging.adventcandlesvolunteer
