Dennis Johnson: Senior Pastor
Dennis came to Resurrection in February of 2000 after serving as pastor at Emmons Lutheran Church in Emmons, Minnesota (1992-2000) and at Gloria Dei Lutheran in Tomah, Wisconsin (1986-1992). He is a native of New Hampton, Iowa and graduated from University of Northern Iowa (1977) and Luther Seminary (1986). Prior to seminary Dennis served as Youth Minister at Vinje Lutheran Church, Willmar, MN (1977-1980) and Midvale Lutheran Church, Madison, WI (1980-82). Dennis is married and has two children.
Pastor Dennis shares preaching and worship leadership, teaches Alpha classes for new members and others, and works directly with church administration, council, and staff on their various roles in our shared ministry. He is also involved with bible camp promotion.
Miranda Klosterboer: Associate Pastor
Miranda came to Resurrection in January of 2016. She was raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Lisbon, Iowa and served previously at Good Shepherd Lutheran in Lena, Illinois. Miranda and her husband Jesse are excited to have added a son to their family in 2016! Pastor Miranda joins in preaching and pastoral care, and leads our Confirmation Ministry.
Tammy Evans: Sunday School Coordinator & Co-Director of Children’s Ministries
Tammy began her work as the Sunday School Coordinator when Resurrection moved to our new facility in the spring of 2004 and the Workshop Rotation Model was introduced as the new Sunday School program for Preschool-5th grade students. Tammy lives in Marion with her husband Matt and their two children. She taught school for 17 years preceding this position. She enjoys reading children’s books, swimming, and traveling. Other favorite pastimes are working with children through the Sunday School program and other activities at Resurrection and in the community.
Jill Hansen was hired to partner with Tammy Evans in our Sunday School Coordinator position in 2008 and then as the Wednesday Night Live Director in 2009. In 2013, she was also put in charge of Middle School events and Family events. She lives in Marion with her husband, Gary and their three sons. Jill grew up in Storm Lake, Iowa and is a graduate of the University of Iowa. She has been a member of LCR since 1999. Previously, she taught at a Christian Preschool for 6 years. She loves music, reading, sports, and the Hawkeyes. She enjoys having fun with her boys and the LCR kids.
Katie Kascel: Director of Youth & Young Adult Ministries
Katie has been attending Resurrection since Fall of 2011. She was born and raised in Marion, and received a degree in Child, Adult, and Family Services (Youth focus) from Iowa State University in May of 2011. She loves Jesus, children, music, books, friends, and her family. She has a heart for missions, and has been working with orphans in Malawi, Africa since 2010. Katie joined the staff in October of 2012. She loves working with EDGE!
Marcia Edwards: Volunteer Coordinator
Marcia is from Correctionville, Iowa but has lived in Marion for the last thirty years. She taught mathematics in western Iowa, Frankfurt, Germany, and an Indian girls boarding school in South Dakota. While raising her children she was involved in a multitude of volunteer projects. She and her husband Larry have 2 children and 4 grandchildren.
Evelyn Beck: Office Manager & Treasurer
Evelyn and her husband Les have been members since November of 2000 when they relocated to Cedar Rapids from Ames. Evelyn started working at Resurrection in July of 2008. She volunteers pretty much everywhere at the church! Her hobbies are watercolor painting and her grandchildren.
Emily Carson: Office Assistant
Emily has been at Resurrection since January of 2003. She is responsible for weekly bulletins, the monthly newsletter, worship slides, the website, our Facebook page, and answering the phone. Emily enjoys music, reading, social dancing, naps, and her scruffy perennial garden.
Marsie joined the staff at Resurrection in 2017. She is our day-time janitor. Marsie has lived in the Cedar Rapids area most of her life and spent many years working at Cedar Memorial. She enjoys time with her husband, grown daughters, and young son.
Jamie joined the staff at Resurrection in 2017. He comes in the late afternoons and evenings to clean and move ‘the big stuff.’ Jamie works at one of the local grade schools during the day, and is very relieved to get home to his family after helping us here at the church. If you run into Jamie around town and he doesn’t seem to know you, do NOT be offended! Jamie actually has an identical twin.
